GENE A’HERN – FOR NOW
Piermarq is proud to present For Now, the first solo exhibition by local emerging painter and sculptor Gene A’Hern. A’Hern is a hugely promising addition to the Sydney art scene, having recently graduated from the National Art School, where he was a recipient of two major prizes for painting.
Exhibition Dates: 27 September – 14 October 2017
Opening Drinks: Wednesday 27 September 2017, 6 – 8pm RSVP
Created in his quiet studio in the heart of the Blue Mountains, Gene A’Hern’s latest body of work is an autobiographical illustration of his present meditations and discoveries. His bold abstract works explore the impermanence of time, and reflect the importance of being present in the moment.
A’Hern conceptualises the value of time as “life’s currency” and this notion underpinned the painting process for this series. His paintings are honest, emotive and spontaneous. They are full of light, vibrant colour and expressive mark-making.

Gene A’Hern’s art-making process is intimately entwined with his dyslexia and discovering that the way he views the world is unique. Even after investing in dyslexic glasses, he chooses not to use them while painting, as the resulting work would be interpretations of a reality that is not his own. A’Hern’s dyslexia has taught him to embrace the uncertainty and vulnerability of his artistic expression without fear of imperfection.
For Now is an invitation into the world of this young talent and the many unplanned moments of abstract expression that manifest on the canvas.
For Now opens on Wednesday 27 September 2017, 6 – 8pm, and runs until Saturday 14 October 2017.
