Piermarq proudly presented New Paintings from South West Tasmania, a solo exhibition of new works by prominent landscape painter Geoff Dyer in June 2017. Renowned for his brooding, atmospheric canvases, Dyer’s art is infused by the power and majesty of the natural world. His latest body of work was inspired by the rugged Tasmanian landscape that Dyer, and six generations before him, have called home.

Exhibition Dates: 8 – 24 June 2017
Opening Drinks: Thursday 8 June 2017, 6 – 8pm RSVP

Geoff Dyer revisited Ocean Beach, a strip of wild coastline that he describes as “a muse for the ever vulnerable.” He also visited unfamiliar landscapes, such as Strathgordon and Lake Pedder, set deep within the Tasmanian wilderness. Dyer’s Rock face, Strathgordon series is a new direction for the artist. His bold gestural mark-making lends itself to capturing the lush, mossy hillside and the texture of the eroding cliff faces.

The influence of J.M.W Turner is ever-present in Geoff Dyer’s oils. With an eye for vivid colour and a concern for light, he skilfully evokes the the heady purples and rich, golden light of dusk.

New Paintings from South West Tasmania was an impressive body of work that takes us on an intimate journey through the wilds of the island state.

New Paintings from South West Tasmania opened on Thursday 8 June 2017, 6 – 8pm, and ran until Saturday 24 June 2017.
