JP JONES – PORTRAITS OF SOUND
Piermarq is proud to present Portraits Of Sound by artist & musician JP Jones. An auditory visionary, Jones has developed his own unique musical alchemy. His latest series of work is motivated by his quest to marry his two greatest passions – music and art. His affinity for contemporary art evolved from an unwavering curiosity to create a visual language from the invisible patterns of sound. It is from this fascination that Jones’ first ‘Sound Portraits’ collection was born.
26 September – 13 October 2018
Opening Wednesday 26 September 2018, 6 – 8pm RSVP
Through laser technology JP Jones projects onto canvas the unique moving sound patterns of individual musical tracks. In capturing in paint these patterns, Jones idenitfies their ‘sound signature’ which then forms the structure and base of his works. Jones then applies mass layering techniques, vibrant colours and a variety of textures informed by the music (and his talents as a musican, composer and song writer) to produce each piece.
JP Jones, Does that make me crazy (2018), Acrylic on canvas, 150 x 140cm
Sound signature – Crazy – Gnarls Barkley
From Elton John’s Rocketman to Gimme Shelter by Rolling Stones, Jones’ sound portraits resonate not only due to their inherent sound signature and unique development, but because of their vibrant pop figuration. Part Basquiat, part Schnabel; his work is similarly raw, expressive and high-impact. Portraits Of Sound is alchemy in paint not seen before.
Portraits of Sound opens on Wednesday 26 September, 6 – 8pm, and continues until Saturday 13 October 2018.
