PIERMARQ* is incredibly pleased to present a joint exhibition 'half forgotten dreams', showcasing the incredible talent of international artists Hedley Roberts and Rune Christensen.
British artist Hedley Roberts' CV boasts solo exhibitions in London and Kuala Lumpur, as-well as having work included in the International Symposium of Electronic Arts Japan. Having received a Doctorate in Fine Art from the University of East London, Roberts is the head of Luton's School of Art & Design at the University of Bedfordshire. Roberts' paintings are of lovers, friends, family, acquaintances and strangers are described as ‘non-portraits’. As a starting point Hedley begins with images of friends sent to him via social media, then by adding multiple thick layers of paint, the details of the original image are covered over with large simplified brush strokes. The finished result is a 'non portrait' which pays little attention to representation, but rather opens a dialogue about the socio-political landscape in which the piece was made.
Self-taught Danish artist Rune Christensen has achieved great success throughout Europe and we are thrilled to introduce his practice to the Australian market. Christensen's paintings have been exhibited in the likes of New York, America, Italy and Denmark.
Inspired by imagery from the Renaissance era, Royal Danish rider paintings, Velasquez and Thracian pottery, Christensen comments on historical parrallels the occur throughout society, culture and human behaviour.
Please join us for the opening of 'half forgotten dreams' on Thursday 14th November, 6-8pm.
