Mikka Byarugaba: IMAGE OF A SOUND

All the waveforms faithfully transmitted to our auditory cortex by the ear and its mechanisms constitute our immediate soundscape. Though we may not be of it, we are in it.

–  Pauline Olivero

PIERMARQ* Projects is proud to present its inaugural exhibition, ‘Image of a Sound’, by Sydney-based artist, Mikka Byarugaba, also known professionally under the pseudonym Mikkapedia.

In this exhibition, Byarugaba explores depth and the perception of digital reality through creative coding, utilising holographic fans as his medium.  The artist furthers his exploration of depth through sound, using technology to create audio systems that interact with waveform and frequency amplitudes.  Collaborating with UK-based artist, Sølv, Byarygaba creates audio-visualised artwork that serves as the exhibition’s centrepiece, integrating elements from the fields of electronic music, code-driven visuals and sound art.

Born in 1996 in Kampala, Uganda, Byaragaba is a self-taught multidisciplinary artist.  Always seeking new methods of creative expression, he began experimenting with Augmented Reality (AR) with the launch of a Snapchat desktop app called Lens Studio in December 2017. His creative practice has developed and refined through the years as he discovers new technologies. Byaragaba seeks to encourage dialogue around the future of digital art consumption.
