For Sydney based artist, Adam Spark, everything starts with a drawing. From this framework, Spark builds an imaginary world of colour, shape and texture on canvas.
"I never know where it’s going to end up, so the painting process is one of forming a relationship with the canvas as the painting comes to life. In doing so, I find myself learning more about life and battling through the work to find a place where both the painting and I feel more complete, finding happiness in having created a new world that didn’t exist before.”
Spark’s work explores memory, nostalgia, fears and hopes in imaginary scenes that exist somewhere between the adult mind and a place of childlike wonder. With bold contrasts and familiar iconography, Spark invites viewers to view daily experiences through more innocent eyes.
