Thérèse Mulgrew American, b. 1991

Thérèse Mulgrew's oil paintings explore vulnerability, desire and intimacy with a strong focus on composition and lighting, producing a cinematic mood and atmosphere.  Influenced by film, literature and her time spent working in fashion photography, Mulgrew stages and photographs scenes and recreates them in richly pigmented oil paint. The work is reminiscent of a film still, capturing a brief moment in a broader narrative.

Born 1991 in Dubuque, Iowa, Mulgrew resides in Chicago, IL. Her first solo exhibition took place at Freight and Volume Gallery in NYC in February 2020 and was nominated as one of Saatchi Art’s 35 under 35 Rising Stars of 2020.
