PIERMARQ* is pleased to present a forthcoming exhibition of new work by France based Australian artist Jordy Kerwick, opening Thursday June 4, 2026. This exhibition marks a decisive moment within Kerwick’s practice, following his widely regarded institutional presentation at Yorkshire Sculpture Park over the northern winter. It introduces a considered shift in both form and sensibility, bringing together two distinct yet complementary directions within his current body of work.
The exhibition will present a focused selection of Kerwick’s intricate and highly resolved “water paintings” alongside the expansive, gestural abstraction of his acclaimed “Motor Spirit” series. Together, these works articulate a refined balance between precision and immediacy, offering a compelling insight into an artist operating with increasing clarity and conviction.
We are equally delighted to confirm that Kerwick will travel from his home in France to undertake a one week residency at the Sydney gallery. In the days leading up to, and including, the exhibition opening, he will be working from the Surry Hills space, completing a number of large scale canvases on site. This residency presents a rare opportunity for collectors and the broader Sydney art community to engage directly with the artist, to experience the work as it evolves, and to spend time in conversation with one of the most compelling painters of his generation.
