PIERMARQ* is pleased to present Cesc Abad's first exhibition in Sydney, Trobaràs la teva llum / You Will Find Your Light, from 1 - 25 August 2024.

Catalan artist Cesc Abad (b. 1973, Barcelona) explores the relationship between humans and nature and how actions and behaviours towards nature change and impact our environment and each other.

In You Will Find Your Light Abad presents the human form in an idiosyncratic style marked by rich tones, familiar backgrounds and obscure details. Contorted in a way that provokes comical and absurdist traditions, the figures also summon a darker reality. Each painting in the exhibition holds a secret, reflecting the artist’s own journey of secrecy and revelation. With a strong focus on light and shadow, Abad draws attention to the sheer distinctions between truth and perception, and the known and the unknown. Spot-lights are a recurring device employed by Abad to enable a discovery of the hidden or the unexplored.

For decades Abad hid his art career under the cover of his role as CEO of an import and wholesale distribution business. This cover included a hidden studio only accessible to him behind a wall at the rear of his corporate office. Now out of the shadows, his work has flourished and with it international recognition. In the next 12 months Abad’s will present solo exhibitions in Dubai, Amsterdam, Shanghai and Seoul.
