Zhuang Hong Yi 1962

Chinese artist Zhuang Hong Yi is widely known for his vibrant Flowerbed paintings. Zhuang’s practice involves the precise and repetitive formation of hundreds of hand-folded rice paper 'flowers' which are mounted tightly onto canvas and sprayed from multiple angles with high-key acrylic colour. These delicate sculptural buds create three-dimensional paintings of highly textural landscapes which pay tribute to Zhuang’s former adopted home of the Netherlands.

Zhuang studied at the Sichuan College of Fine Arts in China and continued his education in Europe at the Minerva Academy in the Netherlands. His sculptural paintings have achieved international acclaim and his work has been featured in over a hundred solo exhibitions and group exhibitions worldwide.
