Deborah Brown American, b. 1955

As a painter of modern life, Deborah Brown documents her surroundings, drawing inspiration from her walks around New York City. Her "Shadow Paintings" series during the Covid-19 lockdown in 2020 captured the empty streets of her neighborhood in Brooklyn, each with her and her dog Trout's shadows jutting out in the foreground, to enhance the sense of loneliness. Yet, Brown's brightly coloured and highly gestural architectural renders add a warmth to these solitary scenes.
