Adam Cullen Australian, 1965-2012

Known for controversial subjects and a distinctive "grunge" style, Cullen merged high and low cultural influences in works defined by iridescent colours, bold gestural marks,  irreverent humour and an astute sensitivity to society.

One of the first "angry young men" of Australian art. Adam pushed the boundaries of painting in his easily identifyable, niave style. One of the few living painters to be honoured with a retrospective of his work at the Art Gallery of NSW during his career. Adam is arguably one of the most important Australian painters at the turn of the millennium.
